The VFV Association
The Verein zur Förderung der Forschung und Ausbildung für Faserstoff- und Verpackungschemie e. V. (VFV) [Association for the promotion of research and education in the field of fibre and packaging chemistry], located in Aschaffenburg, was founded in 1972 in Aschaffenburg as a charitable organization. The goals set at that time still remain valid today:
- Promotion of applied research in the sector chemistry for
fibres (pulp, paper, textiles) and packaging, as well as all
environmental protection measures in this respect
In its already 51 years of existence, the organization has conducted research on many topics in the field of fibre and packaging chemistry. The research topics are chosen in accordance with the wishes of the members. Currently, the research of the VFV is mainly focused on the sector of UV-printing inks and UV-lacquers, of paper additives and hygiene of interior rooms. Ongoing works encompass, among others, studies on new analysis methods as well as the support of the harmonization of analyses on European level. - Promotion of the education of natural scientists in the
subject areas mentioned above
Educational measures are promoted continuously in the form of scholarships for practical trainings, student research projects and diploma theses - Promotion of the exchange of experiences between the member companies, coordination of the research projects of the members, and issuance of programs of emphasis
- Promotion of the harmonization of standards and similar regulations for the facilitation of the mutual international acknowledgement of test results
In the 1980ies, several meetings have taken place to discuss various topics. Since 1993, the VFV has been organizing a regular annual Lecture Event in Aschaffenburg regarding the „Trends in the field of European food packaging". At this occasion, renowned experts from Europe and the United States inform about legal developments in the food contact sector.
